Wilder’s trainer reveals progress in talks with Joshua

Former unified heavyweight champion Briton Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) is going to fight three fights in 2023. If everything goes according to plan, then in the third he will meet with the former owner of the WBC belt, American puncher Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs). At least that’s what British promoter Eddie Hearn claims (Matchroom Boxing).

But in Wilder’s camp they don’t believe it.
Explains knockout coach Malik Scott: “Yes, yes. In interviews, they are really cool and serious. In other words, they are ready to fight. But I don’t believe he wants this fight. I think they just use these conversations to sell their fights. Realize that they can’t say out loud, “We won’t fight him.” After all, from a marketing point of view, it would be suicide. They simply have to say in the style of “The fight will take place” and “We want it just like they do.” But let’s be honest. How long have they been feeding everyone promises?”

“You know, I’m tired of all this. I’m sick of this shit,” Scott complains. “Wilder’s manager Shelley Finkel is literally chasing Hearn to finally make this fight. And in response, he continues to feed everyone with promises and shows screenshots of his letters, in which he is also allegedly interested in this fight. I am sure that the whole problem is only in their desire. And even more. I think it’s all about Joshua’s insecurities. A fighter must show zeal. Obviously he doesn’t have it.”

In the same interview, Wilder’s coach talked about the Usyk-Fury fight. He promises early knockouts, regardless of the name of the opponent. And Scott also said: “We have two options – not only Andy Ruiz.”
