This was reported by ESPN sportswriter Carlos Legazpi with reference to the American fighter.
“Kelvin Gastelum told us that he was returning to welterweight and UFC management agreed with his decision. He expects to have his next fight in September,” the journalist wrote on the social network. “He also revealed that he would be working with Dana White’s nutritionist to make the transition.”
Calvin Gastelum last fought in the welterweight division in July 2016, defeating Johny Hendrix by unanimous decision. In April 2019, the American made an unsuccessful attempt to win the interim UFC middleweight championship belt, losing by unanimous decision to Israel Adesanya after five competitive rounds.
Two weeks ago, 31-year-old Kelvin Gastelum got his career back on track after two losses with a unanimous decision over Chris Curtis and is currently number 11 in the UFC middle division.
