If the star American content maker and “social networker” Jake Paul (6-0, 4 KOs) wins the upcoming fight against Briton Tommy Fury (8-0, 4 KOs), he will be placed in the official world heavyweight rating (up to 90.7 kg) of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
This was announced personally by the President of the organization Mauricio Suleiman.
“Jake Paul has been close to the WBC for several years, starting with the first tournament hosted in the UK when his brother Logan fought KSI. Jake won the WBC amateur belt on the undercard that night,” Suleiman said. “Jake is dedicated to the sport and the WBC will not tolerate discrimination against anyone. He deserves the same opportunities that other boxers have. He showed punching power and improved skills, as well as a strong chin. Tommy Fury is a clear challenge to Paul in a battle between two undefeated professional boxers.”
Note that Paul was going to enter the world ranking last year – for this he needed to defeat Hasim Rahman Jr. However, that fight ended up falling apart due to Hasim’s weight cutting problems.
The Paul-Fury fight will be the main event of the boxing evening on February 26 in Saudi Arabia. It is noteworthy that in the same show, the current WBC world champion in 90.7 kg Ilunga Makabu will defend his title against Badu Jack.
Recall that back in December last year, Jake Paul received the WBA world champion belt.
Meanwhile, it became known how much Paul and Fury will earn for the fight.
