Last week, Alexander Volkanovski, who holds the UFC featherweight title, agreed to fill in for the dissected Charles Oliveira and face Islam Makhachev on eleven days notice on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
The Australian fighter had already attempted to win the lightweight championship belt in February of this year, losing to the Russian by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
