The lightweight title superfight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski won’t last longer than three rounds, according to former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who is a friend and teammate of the Australian.
“This is how legends are made – I truly believe Alex will do it, he will finish Islam,” Adesanya said in another video posted on his Youtube channel. “He will finish Makhachev, send him to another stratosphere. I think in the third round, maybe even the second round, Wolf will finish him. Will catch him with a punch and then score a takedown in the parterre.”
Last week, Alexander Volkanovski, who holds the UFC featherweight title, agreed to fill in for the dissected Charles Oliveira and face Islam Makhachev on eleven days notice on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
The Australian fighter had already attempted to win the lightweight championship belt in February of this year, losing to the Russian by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
