I am the only Mexican who can beat Bivol. So says the ex-champ

Former super middleweight champion Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) expectedly did not notice resistance from German Dominik Boesel (32-3, 12 KOs) over the weekend – now he is the official contender for the fight with WBA Super light heavyweight champion from Russia Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs).

It is far from certain that Ramirez will get his title chance in the next fight. Bivol beat the undisputed sub-champion Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez at the beginning of the month and will be forced to face him in a rematch if the loser activates a contract clause.

And the Russian is also interested in a fight for all division titles – soon the owner of the WBC, IBF and WBO belts will be determined in a head-to-head fight between world champions Artur Beterbiev (Russia) and Joe Smith Jr. (USA).

Ramirez was going to “take revenge on Bivol for Canelo” before, and now
saysthat there is simply no one else: “After Bivol beat Alvarez, our fight with him must certainly take place. There are no options at all here. And this fight will take place. I assure you that I am the only Mexican who can beat him. And not just to beat. After what I saw in the fight with Canelo, I am confident that I can knock out Bivol.”

Ramirez intends to exercise his right, is not going to shelve the matter: “We will insist on the fight, since I have the status of a mandatory challenger. We are ready to exercise this right. That’s exactly what I’ve been fighting for ever since I switched divisions.”

The Mexican has been competing in light heavyweight since 2019. He has victories over Tommy Carpensi, Alfonso Lopez, Sullivan Barrera and Yunieschi Gonzalez. A little earlier, Dmitry Bivol answered the challenges of Gilberto Ramirez.
