How real is the Haney-Lomachenko fight? The champion’s honest answer

The absolute lightweight champion American Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) is ready to give the title chance to the former division leader Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs), but he prefers not to exaggerate this topic so far.

Haney recalls that both he and Lomachenko have fights in October – Devin will fight in a rematch with Australian George Kambosos this weekend, and Vasily will try to inflict a debut defeat on American Jemaine Ortiz at the end of the month.

“I think that the fight with Lomachenko is very real,”
reasoning Haney. – This is definitely one of those fights that I would like to take. Lomachenko is exactly who I would like to fight. And I’ve been talking about this for years. So I’m afraid you won’t hear anything new from me. I respect him. And besides respect, I have no other feelings for him. I respect everything he has achieved in sports. And I really want to test myself and my skills in confronting him.”

Earlier, the Ukrainian’s manager assessed the likelihood of this fight: “It’s up to Haney!” And the champion himself explained why the fight with Lomachenko is more real than with Davis, and then said: “Dudes, this shit is not my style.”
