Avanesyan on Crawford fight: ‘I couldn’t miss this opportunity’

Former EBU European welterweight (66.7kg) Russian-Armenian David Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs) says he enjoyed holding the Euro title but couldn’t miss a big opportunity like fight with the current WBO world champion and one of the best boxers, regardless of weight category, American Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs).

As a reminder, the Crawford-Avanesyan fight is scheduled to take place on December 10 in Omaha (USA).

“The European title meant a lot to me,” Avanesyan admitted. – We would love to have this fight (defense against the Spaniard
Hona Migesa, approx. vRINGe) and then got into a fight with Terence Crawford. But the opportunity presented itself now, and we could not miss it.

“I remember not many people believed in my success when I first went out to fight for the (EBU) title against Kerman Lejarraga,” continues David. – Even I myself said to myself: “I know that the victory will be mine, but if not, I may not enter the ring again.” Then I gave everything, and after that my career changed. As a result, I spent five successful defenses. Good times, good victories. But now I had this big opportunity, and it was an easy choice.”

That’s what Crawford’s failed opponent, the owner of the other three prestigious welterweight titles, Errol Spence, thinks about Avanesian.
