Zhalgas Zhumagulov: “The film Borat is nonsense. Kazakhs are a well-mannered and warlike people”

UFC flyweight fighter Zhalgas Zhumagulov, in an interview with SE, shared his opinion about the film Borat, the main character of which is a comically depicted Kazakh.

Your rival Manel Kape wrote on Instagram “December 4, I will eat my beshbarmak.” Did this message hurt?

– He understands who he will fight now. He’s on fire too, young. He understands that since I accepted the fight on a short notice, it means that I am ready for battle. He understands that I have no back, and wants to lead me to run to him. What to rattle me – I’m already frightened. I’ll go out and do my job. I’ll do whatever it takes to win.

– Then he threw in this topic with Borat, a film where Americans comically portray a Kazakh. As far as I understand, “Borat” does not seem to you a harmless joke?

– A reasonable person, if he looks at this Borat, will understand that he is driving nonsense. Even this film is not in Kazakhstan [снят]. If we look at our history, we have a very strong history. We have an educated people, a warlike people. And he took some nonsense. Each person will answer for their words. What he said, he will answer for it.

Will you shake hands with him before the fight?

“I won’t shake hands with him. I won’t. Even if I meet him here, I won’t shake. If, of course, he comes up, apologizes, then no problem – I’ll shake him. I’m not a proud person, so no problem. But I won’t go myself.

The fight between Cape and Zhumagulov will take place on the night of December 5 in Las Vegas at UFC Vegas 44.
