Wilder vs. Joshua is the best heavyweight fight, says Bellew

British ex-world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew is keen to see ex-heavyweight champion compatriot Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and American Deontay Wilder (42-4-1, 41 KOs) fight. More than any other heavyweight.

The two almost fought for the absolute in 2018, when Wilder was the WBC champion and Joshua held the WBA, WBO and IBF titles, but the sides did not shine with negotiability.

“Fury recently mentioned the possibility of a fourth fight with Wilder, and Oleksandr Usyk’s team have also said they are interested in fighting the mighty American,” Bellew writes in a column for
DAZN. “There is also talk that Wilder will fight Andy Ruiz next year. But I want to see Wilder fight Joshua.”

To the question “why?” the British veteran answers simply.

“I still think that this is the best fight that can be arranged in terms of entertainment in heavyweight,” Tony appreciated the option.

Yes, writes Bellew, Fury and Usyk could have all the belts in the world, and a potential fight between the two would generate incredible interest for titles and prestige, “but it’s not the all-out fight that AJ vs. Wilder would be.”

“These two have proven that they are powerful, take risks, and there are graters between them. This fight is destined to become a classic,” summed up Tony.

In a few hours, Wilder will return to the ring for the first time since he was knocked out in the third fight against Tyson Fury a year ago and will fight Robert Helenius. Read our preview and forecast.

In early October, Tony laid his fingers out all about the negotiations between Fury and Joshua. In general, Bellew wonders why on earth Fury is even allowed to fight the likes of Charr.
