Wilder comeback: Helenius could be intercepted by champion manager

Manager Shelley Finkel has confirmed that his VIP client former WBC heavyweight champion American Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) will soon resume his career. And he even told why the Finnish veteran Robert Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs) is called the opponents’ favorite.

“As of today, we do not have any agreements regarding the date and opponent,”
manager approves. Why is everyone talking about Helenius? Everything is simple. I have a great relationship with British promoter Frank Warren. So he called me and asked if we are considering Helenius among the contenders for the fight with Wilder, as they see him as a potential opponent (WBA World Champion) Daniel Dubois. I confessed that Robert is on our list. Warren then unexpectedly told the media that Helenius would fight Wilder. In fact, he is just one of the potential opponents.”

It is possible that the WBA requires the Dubois team to fight Helenius – after all, he formally won the eliminator (beat Adam Kownacki) and threatens to file a lawsuit against the organization. Apparently in this way Warren tried to get rid of a potential (undesirable?) Opponent.

Finkel stated that Wilder’s comeback will take place “in the last quarter of the year”: “I spoke with Deontay on Tuesday. I like his attitude. I feel how strongly he is torn into the ring. Now he is in Las Vegas, training at the UFC gym. The date, opponent and venue of the fight are not yet available, but I hope that next week we will have everything on hand – wait for the official announcement.

Wilder has two early defeats in a row: in 2020, he lost the WBC belt in a one-sided duel to British Tyson Fury. A year later, he tried to take the title in a rematch, gave out a competitive fight, but again lost ahead of schedule.

Have you noticed that Deontay Wilder is working with Usyk’s former rival? There are photos.
