Columnist Mike Coppinger spoke in detail about the negotiations for the fight for the title of mandatory challenger according to the WBC heavyweight title between former world champions Americans Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) and Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) .

By
words Coppinger, “Negotiations are under way on the location of the fight. I heard that it can even take place in the Middle East. Although it would surprise me a lot, considering that both are collaborating with Al Haymon. So I still assume that the fight will be held in the USA.”

Another problem is the date of the fight: “According to the latest data, the parties planned to arrange a fight in May. But now I have been informed that another fight will take place in May – Errol Spence vs Keith Thurman. It’s clear that no one does two PPV events in one month. So I’m not sure where and when they will fight. But I expect the fight to still take place.”

Coppinger did not mention other obstacles either. Wilder’s side has repeatedly stated that they allegedly have other options. And they also want to spend this stage of their career as actively as possible – waiting for Ruiz until the summer is not in their interests.

In the meantime, Andy had other options – he could fight for the “interim” IBF title. Wilder’s coach believes that in a fight with a ward Ruiz expects “terrible painful beating.”
