Why would Canelo beat Bivol in a rematch? Knows Tony Bellew

Former world champion and current boxing columnist Tony Bellew has no doubt that the undisputed super middleweight champion and ex-pound leader Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) will beat WBA Super champion Russian light heavyweight Dmitry in a rematch Bivola (20-0, 11 KOs).

Bellew shocked by Bivol’s victory in May and
does not hide it: “What are you telling me. Nobody thought it was possible. It doesn’t matter what people say now. And if someone really bet on Dmitry, then let him prove it – give us a screen of your bet in the studio. I do not hide the fact that I did not believe in this option. And I wouldn’t have believed it. Honestly? I never saw anything special about him. He never showed close to what he gave out in a fight with Canelo. He had a competitive fight with Craig Richards. Which Canelo?

“Before the fight with Gennady Golovkin, I wondered: “How is Alvarez going to beat him? Due to what? There is no harder puncher in the world.” But Canelo took Golovkin’s best punches. He took a direct hit to the jaw. Then I thought: “Well, OK. That was middleweight. But light heavyweight Sergey Kovalev will definitely knock you down.” But he never even shook Canelo. And at the end of the fight, he also timed the Russian, ”recalls Bellew.

The Briton believes that Canelo will dot the i’s in the rematch: “We’ll see. I don’t know for sure. But I think Alvarez wants a rematch. The question is, does he need it? He will, of course, want to convince everyone that they are wrong. But is the game worth the candle? I do not think that this defeat will somehow affect his resume. He has an incredible legacy. But I am sure that if he does go for it, he will beat Bivol in a rematch. To be honest, I’m sure he will. Given what I’ve seen so far, I still think it just wasn’t his night. This happens even to the greatest.”

Meanwhile, one Mexican fighter knows for sure that Bivol and Canelo’s rematch will not take place. Former world champion and boxing columnist Sean Porter entertainingly talked about how Alvarez could beat Bivol and Beterbiev.
