British promoter Eddie Hearn is not surprised that the fight for the absolute welterweight between unbeaten US stars Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) and Terence Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) could not be organized, despite lengthy negotiations.
Eddie suggested that the problem was that the fighters overestimated their market value, which led them to want to earn more than they were worth.
“Sometimes a fighter’s expectations of how much money they should make in a fight don’t match real life. The problem with Spence and Crawford is that for us, for the people in boxing, this is a big fight. But for the whole world in general, it is not as big as you think. So the money these guys want isn’t necessarily achievable,” Hearn explained.
At the same time, the British functionary is disappointed with the choice of Crawford, who chose the Russian David Avanesyan as a rival on December 10: “Sooner or later, Crawford had to enter the ring, because he had been absent for a long time. But this is a disappointment for boxing. Crawford vs Avanesian is a fight no one wants to see.”
At the same time, Crawford’s friend said that the reason was different – allegedly Spence offered Crawford only 35%.
