Where did Joshua fail in the rematch with Usyk: Garcia’s observations

The famous American coach Robert Garcia continues to search for the reasons for the defeat of his British heavyweight ward Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) in a rematch with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs).

Recall that on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, Usyk defeated Joshua on points by a split decision, pulling out a favorable result in the last three rounds.

Garcia admits that Anthony broke even before the final gong. But even during the fight, the Briton could work better, the coach believes.

“If we talk about the work that we did in the hall, and how the fight went up to the ninth round (inclusive), I think Joshua did just everything that we planned,” said Robert. “He used his punches to keep Usyk at bay, his jab and his arm swing. Although I would like him to throw the jab with more power. Anthony sometimes just used his front hand to keep Usyk at bay, but there were many opportunities where the jab could be more powerful. Did not work out”.

“I have to see what I missed during our preparation. As a coach and as a person, I don’t like to lose. But I keep working. Already on Monday, I returned to my gym to start working on other fights that are coming to me. I keep myself in good shape,” Garcia assured. “Still, I keep thinking about the last fight and really believe that we did well until the 10th round. We won on the judges’ notes. But we could still do more, we could throw the jab with more power. And the right one too. And even more often to punch deuces left-right.

Joshua himself spoke about the reasons for the defeat earlier.
