What’s up with Fury and Wilder? WBC President says

WBC President Mauricio Suleiman explained to boxing fans the situation in heavyweight: the current champion of the organization Briton Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) announced his retirement, and the previous belt holder (and number 1 in top 15 WBC) American Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) is also not a fact that he will ever return to the ring.

“Just the other day we had a good chat with Fury,”
says Suleiman. He is now resting with his father and family. We talked a little and decided to return to this issue a little later, after he returns from vacation. We’ll give him time to make his final decision. I don’t want to speculate on this topic. I prefer to first give him the opportunity to rest, to weigh all the pros and cons. We will unequivocally accept and support Tyson, regardless of what his final decision will be.”

According to Suleiman, Wilder will accept the fight for the vacant belt if Fury ends his career: “Yes, he will fight. He’s not just No. 1 in our ranking. I spoke to him a few months ago. He said that everything was fine with him. And he is looking forward to resuming his boxing career.”

Suleiman does not exclude the holding of the tournament if the belt becomes vacant: “In any case, first we have to wait for Fury’s decision. And then we will either play for the title, or arrange a tournament with eliminator fights. I still do not know for sure, I do not have confirmation, but I believe that Joseph Parker and Joe Joyce will play for the title of “interim” WBO champion in a head-to-head fight. So by the time Fury makes his decision, things could change a lot.”

Meanwhile, Usyk’s promoter commented on Fury’s “retirement”, recalled the Klitschko brothers. It seems that the Ukrainian is not impressed with Fury’s victory over White: “The fight is ho*no, the knockout is cool.”
