“What is happening now is the genocide of my people.” Interview with Vlad Sirenko about the war and future career

Ukrainian prospect of the heavyweight division and promotion company B1 Boxing Promotions Vladislav Sirenko (19-0, 16 KOs) in an interview
WMMAA.com told how his life had changed after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian invaders, told about his volunteer activities and career plans for the near future.

“The fourth month of a full-scale war has begun. Do you remember well how you met February 24?

“I remember very well the day this horror began. I am sure that I will never forget him. I was just in training camp and preparing for the next fight. But at 6 in the morning, through a dream, I heard the voice of my father with the coach and the words that the war had begun. It was the worst morning of my life.

Did you even expect Russia to attack Ukraine? Many did not believe in it until the last.

“I didn’t believe that a full-scale war could happen. Like many others, I did not believe in it until the very end. It was just that such thoughts could not fit in my mind.

Is your life divided into “before” and “after”? What changed? Maybe he began to somehow relate to some things differently?

It is a correct expression that life has changed before and after. Everything has changed, from relationships with some people to how my career develops. In general, my attitude to life has changed and the values in it have changed.

– We know that you are now engaged in volunteer activities, tell us this?

— I could not stand aside and really wanted to be useful, so I joined the Freedom to Ukraine team, where I did various volunteer work.

— Was Freedom To Ukraine founded by the B1 Promotions team?

– In part, it was founded by the Quatrgroup group of companies, which includes B1 Promotions. For all the time spent with all the people who worked fruitfully in this fund, I was overwhelmed with pride. First of all, pride in our armed forces, for the president and his team, for all the volunteers, and for each person from our team. Huge respect and gratitude to all.

– How do you train now and how did the war affect your training process?

– Now I have the opportunity to fully train and prepare for my possible fight. The war had a very strong impact not only on the training process, but also on the continuation of my career in Ukraine as a whole.

– Are you considering the option to fight this year? Who would you like to compete with?

– Yes. I want to return to the ring with great joy and motivation. I hope that our team will be able to organize several fights before the end of this year. It’s too early to speak for my opponents, but I can say that my motivation is incredible.

– Now you are in the top 15 boxers in the world in your weight category according to the WBO and top 20 according to the WBC. How long do you think it takes to get into the top 5?

Questions of this nature are often asked, which is very difficult for me to answer. We are working fruitfully towards this and hope to reach this position in the near future.

– What is your prediction for the Usyk-Joshua 2 fight?

– I predict a very cool battle. In which the strongest will win.

— Today there is no sphere of activity that would not be touched by politics, and sport is no exception. In your opinion, why can’t sport be out of politics, especially now?

– From my personal experience, I can say that it is impossible to be aloof from politics and it doesn’t matter what field of activity you are in. Although I used to try my best to be apolitical. What is happening now is the genocide of my people. This is a terrible war.

– Why Ukraine will definitely win?

– Ukraine will definitely win, because we are on the side of good. And good always wins. I am proud of our defenders, I am proud to be Ukrainian.
