The girls announced their willingness to share the octagon on social media.
Whaley: “Hey champ. Fans might want to see us fight at UFC 300.”
Grasso: “I admire you so much! And I would love to come out against you for a title defense. Will you move up to flyweight?”
Whaley: “I’m in! Now is the time.”
Grasso: “Let’s do it!”
In March of this year, Alexa Grasso sensationally took the UFC flyweight championship belt from Valentina Shevchenko with a fourth-round rear-naked choke victory, and in September, the Mexican retained her title with an immediate rematch with “Bullet”.
Last November, Weili Zhang regained the UFC featherweight championship belt with a second-round rear-naked choke victory over Carla Esparza, and in August of this year, the Chinese woman successfully defended her title with a unanimous decision win over Amanda Lemos.
Alexa Grasso and Weili Zhang are currently ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the UFC’s P4P women’s rankings, respectively.
