We want to fight Canelo, not run after Benavidez or Plant – coach Morrel

Ronnie Shields, coach of Cuban WBA World super-middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) David Morrel (8-0, 7 KOs), after a confident knockout victory over Kazakhstan challenger Aidos Yerbosynuly, said that they are already ready to challenge Mexican absolute division champion Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs).

However, the coach does not believe that such a fight is possible at this stage.

“I don’t want him chasing Benavidez or Plant,” Shields says. – Benavidez is generally a champion in a minor version. Morrel wants to fight Canelo, but of course Canelo won’t fight him. What then next? This is, as always, a question for management. Well, I will take care of the game plan for the opponent, whoever it is.

Commenting on the last fight, Shields was generally pleased with the actions of the ward:

“I said that I need two or three more fights to bring him to perfection. On Saturday you saw the difference compared to the previous two fights. He boxed when he needed to. He stayed in the middle of the ring, just like I wanted. Several times he ran into the ropes, and that was too much, so I had to give him a scolding. But in general, yes, he 100 percent did what we had planned.”

Unfortunately, Yerbosynuly is in a coma after being knocked out by Morrel.
