“I’ve fought almost everyone I can fight already, so, you can only go for a second round here,” said “Drago” in an interview Sport24. “A fight with Ghana, with my good win over Tuivasa, would be logical enough. A rematch with Aspinall would be logical too, because that fight was pretty scrappy, in my mind. The fight with Ghana was pretty competitive.”
“So there are options to ponder here. Maybe Almeida will come up, or a rematch with Blades. The question is what will happen in the division after my fight and the next fight for the belt?”
In June 2021, the Russian fought Cyril Gagne for five rounds, losing to the Frenchman by unanimous decision, and last March, Volkov lost by a leveraged elbow to Tom Aspinall in the first round.
Since the loss to the Brit, “Drago” has reeled off two straight wins, finishing Jairzinho Rosenstrike and Alexander Romanov by first-round technical knockouts, and is currently ranked seventh in the UFC heavyweight rankings.
