Volkanovski named the weight with which he will fight with Makhachev

Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who next month will try to take the UFC lightweight title from Islam Makhachev, has revealed how he plans to fight the Russian.

“I am a short featherweight, but quite heavy because I hold a lot of water,” MMAnews quotes the Australian. “So I always have to race decently, and even at lightweight I have to do a weight race.”

“Now I weigh 80 kilograms (176 pounds), I gained that much on purpose, but I’m already starting to lose weight a little. I don’t want to fight with that weight, I need to be a little lighter. I have to keep the perfect balance when I am both strong enough and still fast. I think I will go into the fight with a weight of 77, 78 kg maximum (172 pounds) ”

According to the regulations, there is no allowable overweight in title fights, so at the official weigh-in procedure, both participants in the championship match must show no more than 70.3 kg (155 pounds).

Recall that the lightweight title superfight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski will be the main event of the UFC 284 tournament, which will be held February 11 in Perth, Australia.
