Video: UFC veteran Felipe Colares stops alleged thief in Brazil

Former UFC featherweight Felipe Colares used his jiu-jitsu skills to stop a man accused of stealing a phone Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro. The MMA fighter was filmed holding the alleged thief on the ground while waiting for police to arrive.

Colares posted photos and a clip of the incident to his social media. He said that he saw an “alleged attack on a woman” as he left Recreio dos Bandeirantes’ beach gym.

” I went back to the car to see the lady to verify the situation. It was indeed a robbery,” Colares wrote. “My friends and I went back to the car and saw the man. After noticing he was unarmed, we intervened and managed to pin the robber using jiu-jitsu techniques.”

Colares can be seen holding the man down on the ground while asking for help. He can be heard claiming that the woman was his ex-girlfriend. An older man is seen pulling at the man’s ears while saying “I’ll Kill You Right Here ”

“Don’t call [the cops], man,” the old man tells Colares. Let’s just throw him in a ditch .”

Colares posted on social media that they had been able to call the woman back and said “today, we have one less robber on the streets .”

“I don’t recommend unprepared people to do that,” he wrote, “but today I became one percent better.”

Colares (10-4) fought five times in the UFC, scoring wins over Luke Sanders and Domingo Pilarte. On February 2, he will make his Ares FC debut, against Alioune Nahaye. 17.
