“Usyk just weathered the storm.” Analysis of the 9th round of the rematch with Joshua from cutman Alexander

Russ Anber, cutman of the Ukrainian world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs), dismantled the ninth round of the last rematch against Briton Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs).

Recall that it was in this three-minute period that Joshua proved to be the best, bringing a lot of hard punches to the target. However, they did not have the desired effect for the British. On the contrary, starting from the tenth round and up to the final gong, Usyk dominated, eventually celebrating a victory on points.

“It was a great round for Joshua,” Anber admits. “And I think you will understand that. Although Usyk does not have much experience in profiboxing, all his actions were aimed at waiting out the storm. From the outside, it looked like Joshua had crushed him, shaken him. But instead of trying to clinch and panic, Usyk simply waited out the storm. He knew that sooner or later it would happen. “Ok, I lost this round, but it can’t get any worse.” When he returned to the corner, he was fine. We doused him with ice water, everything was fine with him. And the next round was proof of that.”

At the same time, Russ also noted that Joshua performed better in the rematch than in the first fight: “He improved, 100%. Pulled up the protection, so it was difficult to hit him. He didn’t let Usyk push him around like last time. He stood his ground. And if he felt that danger was coming from Usyk, he fired back.

And the British coach Robert Garcia, meanwhile, told what happened to Joshua after Usyk’s defeat.
