Sodiq Yasuff was the favorite fighter on UFC Vegas 61’s fight card. He proved it in a fast fire manner.
Taking on short-notice opponent Don Shainis after his original bout against Giga Chikadze was scrapped, Yusuff decided to take out all his frustration and prove he was clearly the better fighter. Yusuff started pounding Shainis repeatedly with vicious knees as soon as they got going.
It looked like Yusuff would get the knockout, but then he switched to a different strategy and grabbed a guillotine choke before falling into guard. It took Shainis only a fraction of a second for him to tap out and end the fight.
The official end of the round was just 30 Seconds into the first round.
“I was expecting a much higher ranked fight,” Yusuff said afterwards. I’ve experienced many pauses throughout my career, and it was not in my control. High risk, low reward but fighter’s fight.
“I knew I was going to be able to find shots coming up the middle but don’t sleep on my jiu-jitsu.”
Yusuff is still a formidable opponent in the featherweight division. This latest victory marks Yusuff’s second consecutive win in succession. Yusuff won the fast submission and will now be looking for a higher ranking opponent in 2023..
“I would love to meet up with ‘The Korean Zombie’ [Chan Sung Jung],” Yusuff shouted. It would be amazing .”
