Roman Dolidze gets an A+ for creativity in his win at UFC Orlando.
Dolidze took the fight on short notice and trapped Jack Hermansson with a nasty calf-slicer. Then he transitioned to the top, where he continued his scuffles. Hermansson was unable to move his leg and Dolidze continued to hammer away on him until Marc Goddard intervened to save him.
The official end came at 4:06 in the second round as Dolidze picks up the biggest win of his career. Afterwards, he called for an even bigger fight.
Dolidze shouted, “First off all, I am a grappler.” “World champion grappling but I can knock people out. I’m a self-made grappler. It is just natural.
” It’s with all respect Khamzat. [Chimaev] But I doubt that [170 pounds] will ever be the same. He’s my man. I’m here.”
Prior to his call out, Dolidze was trying to chase Hermansson down but the always elusive middleweight was doing a good job staying out of his powerful range. Hermansson attempted to bring the fight to his world, but Dolidze quickly reversed him and made him pay for any grappling.
That’s exactly what led to the end of the fight as well.
Hermansson was frantically crawling on the ground and Dolidze kept threatening him with submissions until he took the leg and turned into the calf-slicer. Dolidze continued to build momentum and Hermansson was left flat-on-his stomach, with Dolidze on top, the Georgian still on the leg.
It was all Dolidze from there as he just kept throwing punches and Hermansson couldn’t do anything except cover his head and wait for the referee to stop the fight.
With four wins in a row, Dolidze has suddenly become a player in the middleweight division and he’s hoping Khamzat Chimaev will be his next opponent as he continues his climb up the 185-pound ranks.
