UFC Fight Night 229 results: Green knocked out Dawson

Just over two months after his impressive win over Tony Ferguson, 37-year-old Bobby Green made a serious bid for a top-10 ranking in the UFC’s lightweight division with a spectacular upset of 29-year-old tenth-ranked Grant Dawson.

The fight, which headlined UFC Fight Night 229 in Las Vegas, ended as early as 33 seconds into the first round after Green knocked Dawson down with a straight left before finishing his shocked opponent in the clinch.

Prior to his fight with Green, Dawson was undefeated in the world’s strongest league, with eight wins, five of them early, and one draw.

In the event’s second main event, middleweight Joseph Pifer, who made it to the UFC last year via Dana White’s Contender Series qualifying show, picked up his third straight early victory in the organization, finishing Abdul Razak Alhassan with an arm-triangle choke in the second round.

Other results included early wins for Drew Dober and Nate Maniss, who knocked out Rick Glenn and Mateus Mendonca in the first rounds, respectively.

All results from UFC Fight Night 229.
