UFC Fight Night 226 results: Cyril Gan knocked out Sergey Spivak

Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Cyril Gan put his career back on track after a devastating loss to Jon Jones with an early victory over the division’s number seven ranked fighter, Sergey Spivak.

The heavyweight bout, which headlined UFC Fight Night 226 in Paris, took on a one-sided nature in the opening five minutes, and ended at the 3:44 mark of the second round after the Moldovan heavyweight went on the defensive and began settling near the net under a hail of blows.

Before finishing his opponent, the Frenchman easily stopped all of Spivak’s attempts to move the fight to the floor, and himself staged a demonstration, turning the “Polar Bear” into a walking target, who had the unenviable fate to experience the variety of his striking arsenal.

In his post-fight interview, Cyril Gun, who defended his second place ranking in the UFC heavyweight rankings, made it clear that he was not interested in challenging the division’s number four Tom Aspinall, as his entire focus is only on what lies ahead.

In the co-main event, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Rose Namajunas had a disappointing debut in the organization’s lightweight division, losing by unanimous decision 30-27 and 29-28 twice to tenth-ranked Manon Fioro after three rounds.

In a post-fight interview, the Frenchwoman, who picked up her sixth straight win in the UFC, said she expects to face the winner of the title rematch between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko headlining UFC Fight Night 227 in Las Vegas in two weeks.

In the event’s third main event, local favorite Benoit Saint-Denis earned his fourth straight early victory, finishing Brazilian Thiago Moises by technical knockout in the second round.

Other results included a disappointing debut for Uzbekistan-born Bogdan Guskov, who was unable to counter former UFC bantamweight title challenger Volkan Ozdemir, losing to the Swiss by rear-naked choke in the first round.

William Gomis, Morgan Charrier and Farid Basharat also earned early victories.

All results from UFC Fight Night 226.
