UFC President Dana White confirmed the plans of the organization, announced by the defending champion during the broadcast of the UFC on ESPN 44 tournament.
“How great it would be to have your farewell fight dominating the greatest heavyweight of all time in your home state at the Madison Square Garden arena,” Jones wrote on the social media.
“As far as I know, everything is fine with us, and I hope that we will announce his fight with Stipe very soon,” the head of the organization said at a press conference after the event. “Yes, we want to do it in New York”
Judging by the calendar, the numbered event in New York will take place on November 11.
Last month, Jon Jones successfully resumed his career after a three-year hiatus, finishing in the first round with a Cyril Gan guillotine choke to win the vacant UFC heavyweight championship, while Stipe Miocic last fought two years ago, losing a second-round knockout to Francis Ngannou.
The July 8 heavyweight title fight was supposed to headline UFC 290 in Las Vegas, but the organization had to scrap the plan as Jones decided not to rush back into the octagon.
