Tyson Fury remains WBC champion, but with a deadline

British heavyweight Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) still has plenty of time to change his mind and not retire at 34.

Recall that last week, celebrating his birthday, Fury once again announced that he was saying goodbye to the ring. Moreover, he even confirmed his decision in a video conference with the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Mauricio Suleiman.

However, the WBC will not deprive the boxer of his title yet.

“We had a conversation with his promoter, and we gave him (Fury) 10 days, until August 26, for them to send us written confirmation of the final decision (on retirement). After that, we can move on to resolving the situation with the title,” Suleiman said. “We will wait until August 26, which is our deadline to receive formal confirmation of their final decision. We’re in no rush, Fury was a big hero in and out of the ring.”

According to Mauricio, if the Briton still confirms the transition to pensioners, the organization will throw a big party in his honor.

But the editors of The Ring magazine had already taken their championship belt from Fury and immediately decided who would become its next owner.

Earlier, the American promoter of the British Bob Arum spoke about Fury’s re-retirement.
