The WBC world heavyweight champion (over 101.6 kg) Briton Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) gave
interview for a news portal from Britain.
In a conversation, Fury commented on the organization of the fight for the title of absolute world champion against the holder of three belts from Ukraine Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs). Tyson does not see Usyk as a threat and believes that he can no longer withstand Derek Chisora, who lost to Fury in the 10th round of their third fight. In addition, the champion recalled the fights of Evander Holyfield against Riddick Bowe, as well as Tomasz Adamek and Sultan Ibragimov against the Klitschko brothers.
– You called Oleksandr Usyk to the ring. As expected, he approached you and you gave him your speech. Will this be your next fight?
– Let’s hope. Yes, this is the fight that I want and the world wants. If Usyk is not next, then I don’t know what will be. I don’t even know what could happen. I really want to fight Usyk next. They wanted a fight last year around August, we offered them a fight in December, they didn’t take it. Now let’s see what the New Year will bring us. There is constant talk about the Middle East in February. So let’s see how they can keep their word and organize a fight at the end of February.
Is Oleksandr Usyk a test for you? I know you’ve been talking a lot about his size and stuff, but you know this is a tough fight for you?
“I don’t think it’s a tough fight. No. Actually, I don’t think so. I think he is nowhere near as complex as Delboy (Chisora). He won’t take the punches that Derek took. When I watched him fight Derek, whether people want to admit it or not, it was a 50-50 fight. It could have been a 55-45 fight, but it wasn’t a tsunami. He won’t win against me the way he won against Chisora. There is no person who can beat me. I will prove it against anyone. No problem. I have proven it over and over again. I’m the only one there.
I have seen fighters like Usyk many times before. Many times a smaller fighter has gone up against a heavyweight champion. And in 99% of cases they were destroyed. If you want, I can name names. The great Evander Holyfield went up against “Big Daddy” Riddick Bowe. Smaller versus big-big heavyweight. He was smashed to pieces in two battles. In one he won. Another one I can think of is Tomasz Adamek. He went out against Wladimir Klitschko (actually against Vitali, approx. ed.). There were several small heavyweights who fought Wladimir Klitschko and they were all turned to dust as well. I also saw left-handers, small left-handers, mobile, like Usyk. Sultan Ibragimov fought Wladimir Klitschko at Madison Square Garden. It was an absolute sleep test. His head was constantly tormented by the jab.
Look, you should never underestimate anyone, but from where I am in my life right now, where I am right now in my career, I just want to knock him out fast enough. I would like him to come into the ring in February, set an example for him, and then give him a rematch, and do it again at Wembley.
