Tyson Fury: “After this upset, I really became interested in boxing”

One of the most popular and recognizable boxers in the world and the reigning WBC heavyweight champion Briton Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) said that he really became interested in boxing back in 2001 – after he saw on TV one of the greatest upsets in heavyweight history.

“This is probably my first boxing memory. I mean, I mean the memory that shook me. Yes, I’m talking about the fight between Lennox Lewis and Hasim Rahman. We did not sleep all night, waiting for the battle to begin. And then – bang! Only a few rounds have passed, and Lennox loses by knockout. This is my first such memory related to boxing. This does not mean that before that I did not watch fights. But after that fight, I really became interested in boxing, ”
tells Fury.

At the end of the year, Rahman and Lewis had a rematch. Lennox effortlessly beat Hasim, knocked out in the 4th round, regained the WBC and IBF titles lost 6 months earlier. Then Lewis had two more fights – Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko were prematurely defeated. After the duel with the Ukrainian, he decided to end his career.

Lewis is the last undisputed division champion in heavyweight history. Fury has a chance to repeat the achievement of a compatriot. His team is negotiating with the owner of all other belts in the division, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk – the fight is tentatively scheduled for early next year.

Meanwhile, Coach Fury asks questions: “What if Usyk saw something that would help him beat Tyson?” The other day, the ex-heavyweight champion shared his prediction for this fight. And there is also the opinion of the Olympic heavyweight medalist: Fury will defeat Usyk in an ugly fight.
