Tony Ferguson issued a statement after another defeat

After suffering his seventh straight defeat against Paddy Pimblett, former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson does not appear to be looking to end his professional fighting career.

“Love my family and all those who support me,” the American wrote on social media. “Y’all are fire! Met many of you today. Keep believing, motherf***ers. Step by step, s****. Remember my words, gang! Your Champion.”

At the same time, the head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White, hopes that the 39-year-old Ferguson will make a strong-willed decision and end his professional fighting career.

“I would like Tony to retire,” the organization’s leader said at a press conference following the UFC 296 event. “Usually when a man loses, you have to take into consideration his level of opposition and how he generally looked up to a certain point. Tonight, Tony looked like it was time for him to end his career.”

“Tony has been an absolute warrior and a real beast in the sport and I don’t want to disrespect him by publicly discussing his retirement, but I would like him to finish. That’s how I feel about it.”

Recall that the lightweight fight between Tony Ferguson and Paddy Pimblett, which was part of the main card of the event, went all three rounds and ended with the 28-year-old Brit winning by unanimous 30-27 three-round decision.
