Tom Aspinall has named Sergei Pavlovich as his next opponent

No. 4 ranked UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall is adamant that his next opponent should be the division’s second-ranked Russian Sergey Pavlovic.

“If you ask me, I think my next opponent will be Sergey Pavlovich,” the Brit said on another edition of the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “It’s a perfect situation – me vs. Pavlovic.”

“This is the most exciting fight in the heavyweight division at the moment. I have the shortest average time in the octagon and he’s second in the UFC in that metric and it even sounds crazy. Put the two of us together and see what happens. It’s going to be absolute insanity.”

According to UFC CEO, Dana White, the organization of fights in the heavyweight division is put on pause until the title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic takes place, and Aspinall is unclear what to expect from this confrontation.

“It’s a big question and we’re in a pretty strange situation right now in the heavyweight division. Usually the question is who will win the fight, but in this situation it’s unclear if the one who wins will retire? Or will they both end their careers? Or will no one retire? How will it go?”

“I’m not one of those guys who prefers to sit around and wait my turn. That’s not my thing. If I’m healthy, I’m ready to fight anyone. I’m ready to do everything in my power to prove to everyone and myself included that I deserve to be the heavyweight champion. And I know I can do that.”

As a reminder, the title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will headline UFC 295 in New York on Nov. 11, and Sergey Pavlovic will officially underwrite the fight.
