After the American bluntly stated that he was only interested in a fight with Stipe Miocic, the Briton promised to no longer pursue a potential opponent.
“Let’s forget about everything else, titles, resume and all that. I’m just convinced I can beat you in a fight mate, but if you don’t want it I won’t pursue you,” Aspinall wrote on social media.
“Brilliant answer, buddy,” Jones replied.
The day before, Jon Jones called Tom Aspinall’s interim championship belt, which he won in a fight against Sergey Pavlovic at UFC 295 in New York, knocking out the Russian in the first round, imaginary, and also made it clear that a fight with the Briton would do nothing for his legacy.
According to the UFC’s plan, Jones, who recently underwent a second surgery, will not be stripped of his title and will have a postponed fight with Miocic after his recovery, while Aspinall will defend the interim belt against one of the division’s top fighters.
