Tom Aspinall has made a promise to Jon Jones

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has given up all hope of sharing the octagon with the division’s current champion, Jon Jones.

After the American outright said he was only interested in a fight against Stipe Miocic, the Brit vowed he would no longer pursue a potential opponent.

“Let’s forget about everything else, titles, resume and all that. I’m just confident I can beat you in a fight, mate, but if you don’t want me to, I won’t pursue you,” Aspinall wrote on social media.

“Brilliant response, mate,” Jones replied.

The day before, Jon Jones called Tom Aspinall’s interim championship belt, which he won in a fight against Sergey Pavlovic at UFC 295 in New York, knocking the Russian out in the first round, imaginary, and he also made it clear that a fight against the Brit would do nothing for his legacy.

According to the UFC’s plan, Jones, who recently underwent another surgery, will not be stripped of his title and will get a postponed fight against Miocic after his recovery, while Aspinall will defend the interim belt against one of the division’s best fighters.
