Tom Aspinall gives update on knee injury, ‘been down in the dumps’ since UFC London

Tom Aspinall has had a rough few days since UFC London.

The English heavyweight suffered a brutal knee injury just 15 seconds into his headlining bout against Curtis Blaydes at UFC London. The outcome ultimately went down as the first loss of Aspinall’s octagon career, and ended a streak of five straight stoppage victories for the 29-year-old under the UFC umbrella.

Aspinall gave an update about his injury on Thursday. He admitted that he has been feeling “down in the dumps’ since UFC London, but that he is expected to have surgery next week. Aspinall said that although doctors are still not sure about the extent of his injuries, he hopes to be able to get answers quickly and start the process towards recovery.

” “Just a brief update about the knee situation because lots of people are asking questions about the diagnosis. Anyone who has ever had knee problems will know that to get an MRI, or an exact MRI scan of the knee, one must allow the swelling to subside. The surgeon gave me a rough estimate of the problem, but it’s still too early to know for sure. I will have the MRI scan next weekend, then surgery in London.

“So I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s reached out. Although I have been offline and been feeling a bit sick since Saturday night, we are hopeful that it will be fixed soon .”

Aspinall (12-3) is currently the No. 7 ranked heavyweight in the world on MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings. He was expected to move into title contention with a win over Blaydes, but now it’s likely he could be sidelined until 2023.
