Tom Aspinall called a rematch with Sergei Pavlovich inevitable

Britain’s Tom Aspinall, who won the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt in a fight with Sergey Pavlovich, has no doubt that he will still share the octagon with the Russian knockout artist.

“Of course we will have a rematch,” MMAJunkie quoted Aspinall as saying. “He’s 31 years old, I’m 30, and we both have at least five years in the sport. Trust me – he’ll knock out anyone he fights in the division, so we’ll do it again.”

The heavyweight title fight, which was the second main event of UFC 295 in New York City last weekend, ended as early as 69 seconds into the first round with a knockout loss to the Russian.

The organization made the decision to play out the interim title after the division’s reigning champion, Jon Jones, was injured and pulled out of the numbered event, which was supposed to include a belt defense against Stipe Miocic.

According to the UFC’s plan, Aspinall will await Jones’ return and his bout with Miocic and then face the winner of that contest.
