UFC on ESPN 40 Main Event
The fight will take place on August 7 in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA) at the UFC Apex complex and will become the main event of the UFC on ESPN 40 tournament. The estimated start of the fight is 07:30 Kyiv time. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports.
Former UFC light heavyweight contender and current #6 ranked Thiago Santos (22-10) will take on Jamal Hill (10-1), who is ranked 10th.
Santos hasn’t fared very well, losing four of his last five fights. After losing to Jon Jones, Glover Teixeira and Alexander Rakich, Sledgehammer won against Johnny Walker, but in March at UFC Fight Night 203, Santos was defeated by a five-round unanimous decision from Magomed Ankalaev.
Hill, by contrast, is on a winning streak. After losing to Paul Craig last summer, he knocked out Jimmy Crut and Johnny Walker in the UFC Fight Night 201 main event in February. Both of these fights in total lasted less than four minutes.
Prediction for the fight
Hill is racing to the top while Santos is clearly no longer up to the top of the light heavyweight division. Santos is still capable of causing trouble even for the Candidates, as he did in his last fight, plus he has a lot of experience under his belt.
Santos is still good on the stand, but Hill is also a good striker and beats the Brazilian in height. Hill is definitely fresh as a fighter. We believe that Santos, due to experience, will be able to impose a more or less competitive fight on the opponent and drag it out for more than two rounds, but still, Hill’s powerful fists and Santos’ penetration are the factors that can become key in this battle.
