The UFC is ready to organize a fight for Tom Aspinall

If interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall isn’t willing to sit idle while waiting for a fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, he may come out to defend his title.

This was revealed by UFC CEO, Dana White in an interview with TNT Sports.

“Aspinall can probably fight again,” the head of the organization stated. “The Jones and Stipe fight will happen, they both deserve it. Jon got injured, there’s nothing you can do about it, but if Aspinall wants to fight before that fight happens, why not? Why wouldn’t he come out to defend his title? If Tom Aspinall wants to make the fight while Jon Jones is injured, we’ll definitely make it happen”

At the same time, White ruled out Miocic as a potential opponent for the Briton.

“Stipe wants to fight John and I understand him. It’s a fight of the greatest heavyweight of all time against the greatest fighter of all time. It’s a big legacy fight for both guys.”

Jon Jones was scheduled to make his title defense against Stipe Miocic on November 11 at UFC 295 in New York City, but the reigning champion pulled out of the bout two weeks before the tournament after tearing a pectoral muscle, while Tom Aspinall won the interim championship belt in a numbered event by knocking out Russian Sergey Pavlovic in 69 seconds.

Currently, the most likely candidate to fight Aspinall looks to be Frenchman Cyril Gawn, who is ranked number two in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
