This was announced at a press conference in Las Vegas by UFC president, Dana White, explaining to reporters that the organization of new fights among the top heavyweight division is currently on pause.
“Just think about what’s in store for us in the heavyweight division next year – it’s absolutely amazing,” the head of the organization said when asked by reporters about the next challenger. “It’s a true story that’s better than any script you could ever write, and that’s what makes our sport so awesome. We’ll wait until November and then we’ll see how things unfold. I’m excited.”
The heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will headline UFC 295 in New York City on Nov. 11, with Russian knockout artist Sergey Pavlovich, the division’s top-ranked fighter, insuring the championship bout.
The most likely scenario is that Jones and Miocic will end their careers after the fight, and the vacant title will be claimed by Frenchman Cyril Gagne and Briton Tom Aspinall in addition to the Russian.
