The UFC explained the cancellation of the Kucelaba and Lins fight

UFC CEO, Dana White, explained why the bantamweight fight between Ion Kucelaba and Filipe Lins, which was supposed to headline the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 229 this past weekend, was canceled literally at the last minute.

According to the head of the organization, the Brazilian refused to fight the representative of Moldova, citing ill health.

“Lins felt unwell,” – quotes the head of the organization MMA Fighting. “We sent doctors to him, they examined him, gave him something to take, but he said he still wasn’t feeling well, so the fight was canceled. It was his decision. We paid Kucelaba.”

White did not specify if the fight would be rescheduled or if the fighters would get new opponents.

Filipe Lins, 38, is riding a three-fight win streak, winning a unanimous decision over Russian Maxim Grishin in his last fight.

Ion Kucelaba, 29, put his career back on track this April after three straight losses, finishing Tanner Boser by first-round technical knockout.

Neither fighter is currently ranked in the top 15 of the UFC’s bantamweight division.
