The UFC 297 tournament lost one fight

The first numbered event of the world’s strongest league next year has lost one of its bouts.

This was announced by the matchup, Dominick Reyes, who was scheduled to share the octagon with Carlos Ulberg in three weeks at UFC 297 in Toronto.

“Hey everyone. My fight on January 20 has been canceled due to an ‘injury’ to my opponent. We are currently looking at options, including rescheduling the fight. I had a great camp and I’m definitely upset, but God has another plan,” the former UFC bantamweight title challenger wrote on social media.

Following his controversial title defeat to Jon Jones, 34-year-old Dominick Reyes suffered three more consecutive losses, losing by knockouts to Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka and Ryan Spann.

Carlos Ulberg, 33, on the other hand, is riding a five-fight win streak in the UFC, finishing Da Un Jang with a rear-naked choke in his last fight.

As a reminder, UFC 297 will take place on January 20, and its main event will be a middleweight title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis.
