The Spence-Thurman fight will take place in April and will be non-title – source

The duel between the WBC/WBA/IBF world welterweight champion (up to 66.7 kg) American Errol Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) and his compatriot, ex-champion Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) was planned at the end of last year, but was eventually postponed due to injuries sustained by Spence in another accident.

According to insider Mike Coppinger, April is the new benchmark for the fighters, and the deal is almost done. At the same time, there will be no titles at stake in the fight, which will become the main event of the PPV show, since it will take place either in a catchweight, exceeding the welterweight division limit, or in a full first middleweight (up to 69.9 kg).

All three organizations, where Spence is the champion, allegedly will not interfere with the duel with Thurman. Although the WBA has already stated that after Errol fights Thurman, he will have exactly 60 days to agree on unification for the “absolute” with Terence Crawford. Otherwise, the champion will have to face the winner of the bout between Eimantas Stanyonis and Virgil Ortiz, who are also due to fight in April.

Recall that Spence has not performed since April last year, when he won the unification match against Cuban Yordenis Ugas.

Thurman has not been seen in the ring since February. It was then that he confidently passed on the points of Mario Barrios.

The legendary promoter is confident that Thurman will have a hell of a fight with Spence.
