This was officially announced by the head of the world’s strongest league, Dana White, at a press conference following the UFC 298 event in Anaheim.
Jamal Hill, 32, won the vacant UFC bantamweight championship belt early last year by defeating Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision, but in July the American was forced to vacate the title after tearing his Achilles tendon while playing basketball.
Last April, Alex Pereira lost the UFC middleweight championship belt after losing by second-round knockout to Israel Adesanya in an immediate rematch. The 36-year-old Brazilian then moved up to the welterweight division, defeating Jan Blachowicz by split decision in a challenger’s bout, and in November, Pereira won the vacant title by finishing Jiri Prohazka by second-round TKO.
