Bookmakers published the starting odds shortly after the head of the UFC, Dana White, announced the injury of the current champion of the division, Jon Jones, and the organization of the fight between Pavlovic and Aspinall. That said, informed sources say Jones, who tore a pectoral muscle and is out for eight months, will face Stipe Miocic after his recovery, a fight that was supposed to headline UFC 295 in New York on Nov. 11.
The bout for the interim UFC heavyweight title will be the number two event of the numbered event, and the show will be headlined by Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira, whose clash will determine the new UFC light heavyweight champion.
Sergey Pavlovic, 31, is riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC, having knocked out all of his opponents in the first round, while 30-year-old Tom Aspinall made a successful return to the octagon from a knee injury in July, taking out Marcin Tybura in 63 seconds.
Unlike the Brit, who has just over two weeks to prepare for the fight, the Russian has been preparing for UFC 295 as a reserve for the title fight and has had a full camp.
