Teofimo Lopez admits he didn’t want to fight Pedraza

Former unified lightweight champion, recently playing in the first welterweight division (up to 63.5 kg), American Teofimo Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) admitted that he was not eager to fight ex-champion in two categories, Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza ( 29-4-1, 14 KOs).

However, given the state of affairs in the category, he had to stop at this particular candidate.

Recall that the fight will be the main event of the boxing evening on December 10 in New York (USA).

“He (Pedrasa) is not someone I would like to face (in the ring). However, with everything that is happening and how many other fights are now planned, this was the best option of all possible, – said Lopez. – And in general, everything happens for a reason. So I’m looking forward to a phenomenal end to the year so I can head into 2023 for the championship.”

In August, Teofimo made a successful debut in 63.5 kg, stopping the Mexican Pedro Campa in the 7th round.
