Taylor’s championship luggage leaked for another title: everything for revenge

Now the former absolute of the super lightweight division (up to 63.5 kg) Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) is not obliged to fight against the WBC challenger Jose Cepeda (35-2, 27 KOs). It turned out that today the Scot has officially vacated the title of the World Boxing Council.

As WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman writes, he “regrets that he lost so much time and made the mandatory challenger Cepeda, as well as other fighters in the division, wait.”

Now, for the vacant title, Cepeda is likely to face former WBC/WBO champion Jose Ramirez. This will be their rematch: in February 2019, Ramirez defeated William by majority decision. The parties have until August 1 to agree on a fight.

Taylor stays at super lightweight: wants to ‘shut everyone up’

Thus, Taylor has already given up two of the four titles that he owned after defeating Ramirez. While he still has WBO / IBF titles.

Top Rank has already confirmed that the reason Josh vacated the WBC title is because he decided he wanted a rematch with Jack Catterall (25-1.13 KOs). At the end of the winter, he controversially defeated him by split decision.

The IBF announced that they would play for the “half title” in “Taylor’s weight” – the Briton would not like it.
