Tatiana Suarez has been eliminated from the UFC 298 tournament roster

A month after the fight was officially announced, the UFC’s No. 3 ranked featherweight division’s No. 1 contender, Tatiana Suarez, has suffered an injury and has pulled out of a potential contender’s bout against Amanda Lemos that was scheduled to take place Feb. 17 at UFC 298 in Anaheim.

Her spot on the event’s card will be taken by Mackenzie Dern, who agreed to accept the fight with Lemos on four weeks notice. The reshuffle was reported by informed sources close to the situation.

Tatiana Suarez, 33, is undefeated and riding a seven-fight win streak in the organization, finishing former UFC champion Jessica Andrade with a guillotine choke in her last fight.

Amanda Lemos, 36, made a failed attempt to take the title from the division’s reigning champion, Weili Zhang, last August, losing to the Chinese woman by unanimous decision at the end of five rounds.

Mackenzie Dern, 30, has been on a steady win-loss streak for the past three years, and this time she returns to the octagon after a disappointing performance, losing by TKO in the second round to Jessica Andrade.

Amanda Lemos and Mackenzie Dern are currently ranked fourth and eighth in the UFC’s top-ranked featherweight division, respectively.
