This weekend in Manchester (UK) will host one of the most intriguing fights in January. In the middleweight limit, local popular fighters will meet – ex-challenger Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) and former division champion Liam Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs).
new member International Boxing Hall of Fame Carl Froch believes that if he wins, Eubank will then be able to take the division championship belts from the age-old legend from Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs).
But it’s definitely not disrespectful. Just “Cobra” Froch
knows firsthand how hard it is to perform at such a respectable age: “Everything is simple here. Defeating Smith will take Eubank to the next level. And the next level is a title fight.”
Interestingly, at the same time, Froch did not decide on the favorite of the Eubank vs Smith fight: “I think this fight can go according to completely different scenarios. To be honest, I have not yet determined a favorite for myself. I think both have a chance. But if Eubank still wins, then I think he needs to immediately go to the title.
“Golovkin is over 40 years old,” Froch recalls. – And I know what it’s like when you are already over 40. You slow down, the speed and reflexes are not the same. You realize that your best years are in the past. That’s why I have no doubt that Eubank can beat Golovkin.”
Meanwhile, coach Roy Jones says, “I’m training Eubank for Golovkin and Canelo, not Smith.” Rumor has it that the Kazakhstani is ready to fight with the British.
