Song Yadong has accused Peter Yan of refusing to take the fight to him

The UFC’s No. 7 ranked lightweight division, Song Yadong, has confirmed information that his fight against Peter Yan was supposed to headline another Chinese event for the world’s strongest league on Dec. 9.

According to the Chinese fighter, the Russian, who occupies the fifth line in the rankings, refused the fight, citing injury. In confirmation of his version Song cited a screenshot of correspondence with his manager, who informed him about the cancelation of the fight.

“Peter Yan is injured – talking to Sean Shelby right now, trying to find options,” the manager wrote.

Two weeks earlier, the Russian’s manager, Sayat Abdrakhmanov, reported that they were not offered a fight with Yadong, and Petr Yan published a video of him recovering from anesthesia in a hospital room.

UFC representatives have not yet made any official statements on the matter.

In March of this year, 30-year-old Peter Yan suffered his third straight defeat, losing by unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili, while 25-year-old Song Yadong put his career back on track in April following a loss to Corey Sandhagen, finishing Ricky Simon by technical knockout.
